Over the past year, Walker’s Legacy and the Walker’s Legacy Foundation have focused our attention on two main objectives: building the structures and offerings necessary to give voice and preparedness to multicultural women as they start and expand their entrepreneurial endeavors and establishing Walker’s Legacy and the Foundation as industry leaders in the efforts to advance opportunities for enterprising and professional women of color in business by producing original content, educational opportunities, and a national platform.

We are extremely proud of what was accomplished from March 2016 to April 2017, including holding programming in more than ten (10) cities across the nation, connecting with roughly 3,000 women through our in-person and online educational programs, releasing the first research study: Black Women Entrepreneurs: Past and Present Conditions as commissioned by the National Women’s Business Council, developing a new mobile app, and most notably, launching the Walker’s Legacy Foundation which houses our single mothers’ financial literacy and entrepreneurship program in Detroit, Newark, and Washington, DC (all of which are covered in more detail in our Annual Year in Review). Even with this remarkable reach and impact, there is still much work to be done.

As we move forward with growth, we wanted to take this time to share with you a bit of what’s next for our agenda to advance multicultural business and professional women…

— We are excited to continue broadening our portfolio of talented and business-savvy writers.  To increase the reach of our knowledge bank, we are currently building a new, open-contributor network platform that will allow guest writers to contribute content at any time that, once approved, will immediately appear on the Walker’s Legacy site.

—  We understand the holistic nature of professional business women who often times wear many hats: breadwinner, wife, mother, community servant, and more.  Navigating the stress of success and failure can be daunting, especially when you feel alone.  As such, you can expect to see more content from us on health and wellness with more features on the shared experiences of women who are managing the stresses of “having it all”.

— This spring, we launched the Beta version of the Walker’s Legacy mobile app.  We are looking forward to building a more robust 2.0 version that will allow for increased training and connectivity functionality for our community and members.  Along those lines,  we are also looking forward to launching our new Walker’s Legacy website.

— Stay tuned for new human capital announcements, including our full-time team,  advisory council, and board members for Walker’s Legacy and the Walker’s Legacy Foundation respectively, as well as our new communities model, which provides leadership opportunities for women in their local communities, all being launched this Fall.

—  Late summer you can expect to learn about new programs, boot camps and e-learning opportunities using original curriculum from Walker’s Legacy and the Walker’s Legacy Foundation, which will be launched in fall of 2017 and spring and summer of 2018.

— We are excited to be launching new verticals for corporate women and those enterprising women who have crossed the million dollar mark, along with lifestyle programming which will focus on travel experiences.

— We will reach an even broader range of women through the work of our foundation, which will be launching programs to support young women and girls of color through entrepreneurship as well as returning citizens.

— Lastly, we invite you to stay tuned for exciting updates and offerings from our corporate, foundation and government partnerships- old and new.

The preceding is but a snapshot of some of the major advancements you can expect to come from Walker’s Legacy and the Walker’s Legacy Foundation.

If you work with a corporation or foundation, we encourage you to connect with us to discuss partnership opportunities.  If you are a corporate, government or business professional, we encourage you to join Walker’s Legacy and if you are a college-age women we encourage you to check out our University Women programming. Lastly, if you are an ambitious woman with limited financial means, we invite you to stay connected to and apply for one of the many programs of the Walker’s Legacy Foundation.

We look forward to the impactful years to come at Walker’s Legacy and hope that you will learn more about our work, why we do it, and the communities we touch in our Annual Year in Review Report.
