On Sept. 8, Tom Ford Beauty took to Instagram to announce the newest addition to their Boys and Girls lipstick collection, ‘Cardi.’ Inspired by outspoken and playful rapper, Cardi B, ‘Cardi’ is a cobalt blue shade with a little shimmer.
‘Cardi’ is one of 30 mini lipsticks being added to the Boys and Girls collection a year after its debut. The original 100 shades consist of 50 lipsticks named after boys and 50 lipsticks named after girls. While the mini lipsticks continue this trend, they’re all also named after friends, collaborators and “intimates” of Tom Ford himself.
While being in the elite group of Tom Ford Beauty muses with huge names in fashion such as Naomi Campbell and Carine Rotifield is certainly noteworthy, this is not Cardi’s first big moment in fashion. Previously, Cardi has curated a shoe collection for Steve Madden and collaborated with Fashion Nova.
While this release was not a collaboration, Cardi’s Instagram post in response to the lipstick reveals hints that she may be working on one with the company.
“Thank you so much @tomford and @tomfordbeauty,” said Cardi. “So excited for this and and what’s to come!!”
If Cardi B and Tom Ford are looking to work together, the success of ‘Cardi’ may be a strong indicator of the potential endeavor’s success. ‘Cardi,’ which retails for $36, sold out in less than 24 hours.
