Evangelizing Entrepreneurship: Shirley Caesar and the #UNameItChallenge Store

Thanksgiving is approaching and as we prepare for some quality time with family and friends, a new viral craze is taking the holiday to a new level.  Derived from a performance of renowned gospel singer Shirley Caesar’s “Hold My Mule”, the #UNameItChallenge has been gracing social media since a remix of the song was created.  The remix specifically uses the part of the song where Caesar sings that she has “beans, greens, potatoes, tomatoes,” and a variety of other foods.

Millions have shared their creative take on the song by participating in the “U Name It Challenge.”  To join in on the fun, participants record themselves dancing or making their own lyrics to the catchy song and sharing it on social media.  In a recent interview with The Willie Moore Jr. Show, Caesar revealed that she learned that her song went viral from a church member.

Caesar has embraced the social craze by creating the newly form #UNameItChallenge e-commerce site where she sells original merchandise based on the song. Featured items include aprons, t-shirts, and sweatshirts boasting the most popular line of the song. Proceeds from the site’s sales will go to supporting families in need this holiday season.

“I’m so happy to see everyone enjoying the remix of my song. Let’s use this for something good and bring beans, greens, potatoes and tomatoes to those without this holiday season!” Shirley Caesar

You can shop the U Name It Challenge Store here to both support Black business and give back to communities this holiday season.
