Walker, an African American woman, is known as the first self-made female millionaire in US history, building significant wealth from her beauty entrepreneurial and business endeavors.
Walker, a savvy businesswoman, created Madam Walker’s Wonderful Hair Grower, launched her factory in Indianapolis, In, and created countless schools to educate women in beauty and sales.
An active member of the community, Walker is known for her financial contributions to the NAACP and the building of the colored YMCA in Indianapolis, among others.
Walker’s Legacy founded in 2009, was created to encourage women to live out their greatest entrepreneurial and professional aspirations while also fostering a sense of community and civic leadership.
