Walker’s Legacy was proud to launch its PROSPECTUS™ Entrepreneurship Accelerator in five cities last week—Atlanta, DC, Detroit, Houston, and Newark.

“Women of color are starting new businesses faster than anyone else, yet there are economic and racial systemic challenges that can often limit access to resources needed to thrive as an entrepreneur,” said Natasha J. Benjamin, Newark PROSPECTUS™ Instructor at Walker’s Legacy. “I’m excited to teach and provide resources centered around marketing, strategic growth, building a winning team, and more—in order to level the playing field.”

According to Fast Company, women of color are the fastest growing entrepreneurial community in the country—accounting for 89 percent of all new businesses opened over the last year.

“As women of color, we are leading the entrepreneurial growth of this country. However, our businesses lag behind in revenue and growth. I have been witness to the power of building entrepreneurial skills in a community of founders and supporters that understand what this journey looks like for us,” said Blanca Garcia, Atlanta PROSPECTUS™ Instructor at Walker’s Legacy. “Right now, Atlanta is one of the most exciting places to build a business and connections with people who want to see us succeed!”

PROSPECTUS™ is a 9-week accelerated business training program that utilizes a structured curriculum, an in-person cohort model, and expert lectures to aid aspiring and existing business women of color in their pursuit of advancing their business operations and access to funding.

“The Houston startup ecosystem is evolving and this could not be a more perfect time for this program. Women of color need access to resources that will enable them to operate high growth businesses,” said Joy M. Hutton, Houston PROSPECTUS™ Instructor at Walker’s Legacy.

Participants of the PROSPECTUS™ program have access to an original entrepreneurship curriculum, a dedicated instructor, and an advanced learning environment to support growth and scale.

“As an active Digital Marketing Coach and facilitator, it is my honor to support the Walker’s Legacy Multicultural Accelerator Program. Often times the entrepreneur framework is delivered through multiple organizations. The Walker’s Legacy Cohort addresses this fragmentation and supports a full spectrum of instruction to support immediate entrepreneur success,” said Katrina Turnbow, Detroit PROSPECTUS™ Instructor at Walker’s Legacy.

“Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart, but those who choose to pursue it with passion and grit are rewarded handsomely. I am thrilled to facilitate the DC cohort where I can help local entrepreneurs to propel their businesses forward at a high level,” said Karima Mariama-Arthur, DC PROSPECTUS™ Instructor at Walker’s Legacy.

The PROSPECTUS™ 9-week accelerator was made possible by funding from the Minority Business Development Agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce and in partnership with the Russell Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, TechTown Detroit, and 1776.
