Rocío Guerrero has been named Vice President of A&R and Cross-Cultural Strategy, Warner Music Latin America & Spain at Warner Music Group. She will be leaving her post as Head of Global Cultures, Shows & Editorial Content at Spotify for this new position.
One of Gurrero’s largest projects at Spotify was lead the development of the ¡Viva Latino! and Baila Reggaeton playlists. According to ChartMetric, ¡Viva Latino! is Spotify’s fourth biggest global playlist with 8.8 million followers and Baila Reggaeton is fifth with 8.6 million followers.
Gurrero’s new role at WMG will include exploring new artist development methods in today’s digital music streaming age, as well as, scouting new talent and organizing creative collaborations for WMG artists.
“I’m looking forward to joining Iñigo [Zabala]’s team, where together we’ll continue to advocate for music globalization and diversity,” said Gurrero, “I’m especially excited to take on a more artist-centric role, this time from the label side, and from the earliest stages of a world hit.”
Before becoming head of all global culture content at Spotify, Gurrero’s main focus was Latin music. She will be carrying this experience as well as personal experiences as a Latina woman with her to WMG.
“In recent years, we’ve seen Latin music break cultural, linguistic, and geographic boundaries, and it’s just the beginning,” said Guerrero.
