Tired of Feeling Sluggish and Blue? Re-Energize this Spring with a Simple Detox Diet!

[space][space]The spring season brings about a renewal and zest for life quite like no other season.  In nature, buried flower seeds have been working all winter long to burst through their shells and blossom into beautiful, colorful blooms —It appears that everything in nature is shedding the old to reveal a new and vibrant beauty that hides within. [space]

So it’s not surprising that we humans have also been counting down the winter days to reveal the beauty that we’ve been diligently working towards all winter long.  Perhaps, you committed to an exercise routine during the winter, or maybe you’ve done some much needed spring cleaning to rid your home of the clutter that’s been weighing you down physically and mentally.

And speaking of spring cleaning—that’s a good place to start! But, true physical beauty and mental clarity can only come about if we also spring clean our bodies with a good detox diet.

Yeah, it’s gonna take  some effort, but nothing worthwhile ever comes easy—does it? [space]

Below, I’ve listed the dos and don’ts of a perfect diet to rid your body of the toxins that you’ve been accumulating all winter long.  Luckily, there are no detox kits or other hard to find items to fret over.  All you’ll  have to do is get rid of the processed foods that make you feel sluggish and blue, and replace them with simple, whole foods that you can pick up at your local grocery store.  [space]

The Dos and Don’ts of the Diet [space]

If you follow these simple eating guidelines, you’ll begin to slowly shed away those old stubborn toxins that have wreaked havoc on your spirit and your appearance; to reveal a new, healthier and happier, re-energized you that radiates beauty inside and out!

First 14 days

 
Avoid these foods:

  • Sugars- including honey
  • Wheat products (pasta, breads, bagels, and processed cereals), chips and corn
  • All processed foods- refined foods, fast foods, fried foods, animal skins, preserved meats, and fatty meats
  • Alcohol, coffee, sodas, dark teas, and chocolate
  • Hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils or trans fats

 You can consume a small amount of these foods: [space]

  • Skinless, extra lean free-range poultry and meats
  • If you must have dairy-eat plain yogurt, cheese made with skim milk, and/or organic butter sparingly. You can also drink skim milk and kefir sparingly

You can consume as much of these foods as you like: [space]

  • Organic vegetables and fruits
  • Extra-virgin olive oil
  • Brown rice and wild rice
  • Raw, fresh nuts and seeds (avoid peanuts and cashews)
  • Flaxseed oil, evening primrose oil, black currant seed oil, borage oil, and fish oil
  • Garlic and onions
  • Filtered water with fresh squeezed lemon or lime (about two quarts daily)
  • Freshly juiced vegetable and fruit juices (you will need a juicer)
  • Green tea and other herbal teas
  • Green super foods or just take chlorella.

 OK—Now you know what foods to eat and what foods to toss out.   But, do you know the chemical reaction that’s happening in your body?[space]

Following this diet for fourteen days will do two things:  (1) The diet will be slowly and safely detoxing your body, and (2) it will be slowly and safely preparing your liver to process the toxins that will be leaving your body en masse on day fifteen when you do the juice fast.

Hint:  You should be visiting your bathroom regularly at this point.  If you find that your body is not cleansing itself quickly while you’re juicing on day fifteen,  you might have to stop juicing and extend your detox diet for a few more days.  Some of us have more toxins than others and it might take longer to adequately prepare your liver. You should have at least 3 eliminations per day to let you know that you are ready for the juice fast.

 Day 15—It’s Juice Time

 On the 15th day, do a juice fast of freshly juiced fruit and vegetables with chlorella or a green super food, and drink plenty of filtered water also. Your body should be more than ready to handle the toxins that will be eliminated during the juice fast.  I only recommend one day of a juice fast if this is your first time doing a detox diet, the more you do the diet, the longer you can extend the days that you juice.

 Day 16—Back to the Detox Diet

 After day fifteen, you should slowly resume the previous diet starting with fruits and vegetables and gradually work your way up to the dairy and meats. This step allows your body to gradually prepare to eat your regular diet again.

No Pain No Gain!

Although the detox diet requires four weeks of discipline and determination, the payoff is well worth the sacrifice.   Here are three things that you are guaranteed to have:   (1) Energy that you never knew you had; (2) a highly functioning brain that’s completely defogged; and (3) an outer beauty of radiant skin that makes you as beautiful as those blossoming spring flowers.
