More than eighty women joined for inspirational programs and brainstorming sessions
(New Orleans, Louisiana) – On July 4, 2015, Walker’s Legacy, a national women in business collective founded in 2009, powered by partner Accelerate with Google hosted the more than eighty women for an impactful women in business awards program during the 2015 New Orleans festival weekend.
The goal of the sold out second annual program was to continue forward Walker’s Legacy’s mission to increase the number of women entrepreneurs of color by improving access to key inspiration and resources.
“African-American and Hispanic women are making great strides in entrepreneurship throughout the country, our goal for this annual awards brunch is to bring greater attention to our role as business owners and economic contributors to the US” stated Natalie Madeira Cofield, Founder, Walker’s Legacy.
Melinda Emerson, the SmallBizLady, advised attendees that “before you start a business you should understand what you are truly passionate about.”
Mushiya Tshikuka, owner of the Damn Salon and WeTV Reality Star also told attendees to “stop dreaming and start goaling; put real timelines behind your life ambitions and you can accomplish anything.”
Janaye Ingram, National Director, National Action Network informed attendees that “everyday Black churches deposit $5 billion in tithes and offerings with banks that do not do business in our communities. We need to ensure that our purchasing and spending power is being invested in and aiding with the growth of our communities.”
Attendees gained valuable insight from an all-star panel of leading women in business and politics and also joined the Walker’s Legacy network by becoming active participants in solving for problems facing women in business in post panel working groups organized by Amplify4Good.
Complimentary beauty products were provided by partner, LAMIK Beauty, a women-of-color-owned beauty brand based in Houston, Texas.
