Walker’s Legacy is a global women in business collective founded in 2009 to inspire enterprising women of all ages to walk into their professional passion and purpose. Our organization is named in honor of Madam C. J. Walker, the first self-made female millionaire in US history.

Since our founding we have touched the lives of roughly 1,000 women through our interactive programming including: Power Summits, online learning’s and in-person meet and greets.  WL is proud to call former mayors, award winning journalists and authors, Forbes ranked businesswomen and entrepreneurs from across the country a part of our growing network. [space]

General Internship Description

The Walker’s Legacy internship program is designed for students who have a demonstrated commitment to and interest in women studies, women in business and general entrepreneurship.

Internship opportunities are available for qualified college/university undergraduate and graduate students who have an interest in becoming future leaders and ambassadors in the growing women in business movement in the US and beyond.   The internship provides the Student Intern practical work experience to augment their education and career preparation with the convenience of a virtual work environment.

During the work experience, the student interns will work closely with the Founder and Walker’s Legacy national team as well as our stakeholders, speakers and corporate sponsors on programs and initiatives. [space]

Internship Descriptions

Walker’s Legacy has a need for the following positions:

  • Program Management Intern (1 per market)
  • Research/Emerging Trends Intern (2 opportunities)
  • Social Media/PR Intern (2 opportunities)


While this is a remote working arrangement, it is required that you are based in one of the following Walker’s Legacy key growth markets:

  • Washington, DC
  • Atlanta
  • New York
  • Los Angeles
  • Orlando
  • Cincinnati

Intern(s) will be required to meet weekly via google hangout with the national internship team and the Walker’s Legacy executive team.

Who We Are Looking For

Candidates currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program and pursing a degree in marketing, business, communications, public relations, women’s studies. Both women and men are welcome to apply. [space]


This is an un-paid position. College/graduate credit is available, if applicable.

Required Technology Skills

Applicants must have familiarity working with all of the following regardless of position within the organization: Microsoft Office, Facebook, Twitter, Google+ (hangouts, documents), LinkedIn.   Weekly internship reporting will be conducted in Asana.  Immediately familiarly with Asana is not required but interns must be capable of learning. Start Date



This position is for applicants that have social media skills and expertise along with researching, writing, editing, interviewing and presentation skills.  The most qualified candidates will have experience with social media and online community management, writing press releases, public relations experience and media exposure. Wild Apricot experience a plus.[space]

Tasks will include:

  • Developing PR contact databases for local, regional and national outlets
  • Administrative duties
  • Creating and formatting original PowerPoint presentations
  • Generating lead sheets within Excel
  • Social media management with: G+, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin

RESEARCH INTERN (2 availabilities)

This position demands that the applicant have research, writing, editing, interviewing and presentation skills.  The most qualified candidates will have experience with writing research reports and other business related documents on topics of women in business, entrepreneurship, trends in business, minority business policy.   • Writing, editing and research
  • Interviewing
  • Administrative duties


This position requires strong event and program management skills including but not limited to: project planning, event communication and marketing, speaker outreach and confirmation, contractor engagement and communication. [space]
