Stacy Brown-Philpot climbed the corporate ladder to become the CEO of TaskRabbit as of last week. Brown-Philpot has made it a point this week to team with black lawmakers to encourage diversity in the tech industry. TaskRabbit an online/mobile marketplace which pairs freelance labor with local demand. Brown-Philpot spent close to a decade at Google as she managed operations for flagship products and oversaw online sales and operations. In addition, talk about girl power, Brown-Philpot is the director of Black Girls Code, a nonprofit that offers workshops and programs to encourage black female talent in the tech field.

Lifetime announced pairing with Serena Williams, Selena Gomez and Janet Jackson for specific projects in its new efforts, Fempire to showcase feminism. Executive Vice President and Head of Programming for Lifetime, Liz Gateley in efforts to “giving women creators a bigger platform to freely express themselves and see their stories get made,” has enlisted Williams to executive produce “Sister Dance,” Jackson to executive produce, “Queenie,” and Selena Gomez to work with Kevin Spacey on an autobiographical scripted drama inspired by her life.

Wo man … in the music industry, Rihanna has been working as her hit single, “Work” has made Billboard Hot 100 history surpassing The Beatles at nine number one weeks and “an overall 60 weeks at number one with 14 songs.” In addition to her musical success, Rihanna has joined forces with LVMH to create her own make-up brand, Fenty Beauty to launch in Fall 2017.

Wo man… Elle.com has a black editor-at- large, Melissa Harris-Perry. In a telephone interview with CNN, Harris-Perry said, “This gives me a chance to talk politics, but also culture, race, gender and literally shoes.” Harris- Perry has been in the news recently for her protest walk off of MSNBC as she felt for months she was being shorted of her editorial point of view. Wo man… power to Harris-Perry for stepping up and taking the steps to change Elle.com to include important topics that are not spoken about in that particular industry!

Malia Bouattia is the first elected UK’s National Union of Students (NUS) President who is a black female Muslim. Bouattia won by 44 votes against the current president, Megan Dunn. NUS which strives to make a difference for the lives of students and their members by defending their rights through fighting discrimination and injustice.

How ironic the woman who freed so many slaves via the Underground Railroad, a nurse, spy for the Union, and a feminist, is now going to be the face of the $20 dollar bill? Although Andrew Jackson will still be on the back, we must celebrate this accomplishment as it is progress to recognize the contribution of many women who sacrificed so much for us today. The Women on 20s began the campaign to present women on the $20 to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Women’s Suffrage movement in 2020. They held an online election to decide which woman should be the first on the $20 and over 600,000 people voted for Harriet Tubman. After the election, they began to petition President Obama and the Treasury Department.

Women; a five letter word that an online dictionary says to be female persons associated with a particular place, activity or occupation. If you ask me, we women are doing the dag-on thing.

This week alone, women around the world are showing out to their counterparts and each other.

In other words, wo men, step aside these WOMEN are doing the dag-on-thing!
