2019: A Year in Review…

As we close out 2019, we are proud to share the many accomplishments made by our organization to empower women across the nation this year.  We encourage you to check out brief recaps below to see the national impact of our work.

Our virtual Ask a Boss series was designed to help women gain insight and advisement from some of the nation’s most influential women in business will relaunch in February. This year our series included notable women such as Lisa Price, founder of Carol’s Daughter and Beverly Johnson, iconic supermodel and entrepreneur among other notable women.

Reaching more than 500 women across the nation, Walker’s Legacy partnered with Comcast and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund to produce a series of programs across the nation to empower women of color in tech. Programs were held in Atlanta, Houston, Detroit, and Philadelphia. CLICK HERE for videos and recaps.

Walker’s Legacy held Secure the Bag programs in Brooklyn and Washington, DC to support women through financial wealth management and entrepreneurial empowerment. Programs included fireside chats with senior executives, financial workshops, and networking. CLICK HERE to see the full recap!



Walker’s Legacy was proud to partner with the Newark Economic Development Corporation and Capital One to present our 9-week in-person business training programs in Newark and with Citibank and HSBCto produce our programming to support women in DC and Maryland, respectively.




The event marked the second year Paypal, the leader in online merchant sales and financial offerings for small businesses, has partnered with Walker’s Legacy to both highlight and support multicultural women entrepreneurs. The program included a fireside discussion with Paypal executive and Global Head of Diversity and Inclusion, Lybra Clemons, panels with million dollar business owners, pop-up shops, and a post-program reception.




Walker’s Legacy was joined by more than 100 women in New Orleans on July 6, 2019 for a program that featured a fireside discussion with Miko Branch of Miss Jessie’s and Pschye Terry of UIG.




For the fourth year in a row, Walker’s Legacy participated in SXSW producing a panel discussion and networking reception to aid women of color in tech with securing funding for their entrepreneurial endeavors.   This year we partnered with Capital One at their newest downtown Capital One Cafe.

Walker’s Legacy
honored six phenomenal women this year for the Fifth Annual Women in Economic Development & Civic Leadership Awards. Recipients are recognized as champions of policy and programs to advance economic development, entrepreneurship ecosystems, and job opportunities within their respective communities.
