Just moments ago our nation watched as history was made: the first woman was sworn in as the Vice President of the United States of America. Madam Vice President Kamala Harris reminds us all that anything we pursue is possible, with hard work, dedication, and a commitment to community.
As a Howard alum, I could not be more proud of Madam Vice President and all the institutions that supported her ascension to the White House, including my beloved Howard University, the illustrious Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and many more.
I, like many of you, shed tears today, knowing that a Black woman, a woman who looks like so many of us has achieved the highest office in the land. Let her be a beacon of inspiration for all of us to set high goals and rise to them. Whether you are an aspiring entrepreneur or running a multi-million dollar business, a school teacher or a superintendent, a grassroots organizer, or an elected official, let us strive for excellence in all that we do.
The bar has been raised, let’s soar to the occasion.
