Walker’s Legacy Graduates Nearly 50 PROSPECTUS Business Accelerator Participants in 5 Cities

Walker’s Legacy
was proud to graduate nearly 50 participants from its PROSPECTUS™ Business Accelerator program in five cities on April 25, 2020. The PROSPECTUS™ Business Accelerator was conducted over the course of nine weeks in Atlanta (GA), Detroit (MI), Houston (TX), Newark (NJ), and Washington, DC. The program utilizes a structured curriculum, a cohort model, and expert lectures to aid aspiring and existing business women of color in launching or scaling their ventures.

“I’ve had a great experience during the PROSPECTUS™ program and recommend it to any woman of color who has a passion for entrepreneurship and actually wants to have a successful business,” said Mercy Chikowore, Public Relations professional and PROSPECTUS™ participant. “The hands-on approach, world-class instructor, and valuable guests can’t be found anywhere else.”

According to Fast Company, women of color are the fastest-growing entrepreneurial community in the country—accounting for 89 percent of all new businesses opened over the last year. Participants of the PROSPECTUS™ program have access to an original entrepreneurship curriculum, a dedicated instructor, and an advanced learning environment to support growth and scale.

“As an entrepreneur, I personally understand the importance of curriculum coupled with community. Our national accelerator programs are designed to give entrepreneurs the tools needed to scale a successful business and support needed to not go at it alone,” said Natalie Madeira Cofield, Founder & CEO of Walker’s Legacy.

In 2018, Forbes reported that the number of women-owned businesses had grown by 58% over the last decade. Those owned by black women grew by 164%. However, even though women of color remain a top entrepreneurial group, there is still a significant “lack of educational resources and mentors to help black women entrepreneurs ramp up their business knowledge.” The PROSPECTUS™ program has worked to change this narrative.

PROSPECTUS™ was made possible by funding from the Minority Business Development Agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce and in partnership with 1776, TechTown Detroit, and the Russell Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Walker’s Legacy is accepting registrations for the online PROSPECTUS™ Spring 2020 cohort beginning on May 23rd, 2020. For more information on the PROSPECTUS™ program, please visit the link here.
