Walker’s Legacy, the largest digital platform for multicultural women in business, will celebrate Black Women’s Equal Pay Day on August 13, 2020 with national programming in cities across the nation. This day, in tandem with National Black Business Month , demonstrates the economic impact and entrepreneurial accomplishments of Black women to the United States economic sustainability.
Despite substantial gains in education, the National Committee for Pay Equity reports that Black women only earn 64 cents to a man’s dollar while women, in general, earn 78 cents. This means that as it stands, Black women must work a year and eight months just to earn what their White male counterparts earn in a twelve-month year.
Black women are disproportionately affected by the barriers associated with the gender pay gap. We know that economic equality is achievable for this community of women, in 2020, being that black women were named the most educated demographic,” said Natalie Madeira Cofield, Founder and CEO of Walker’s Legacy.
