Walker’s Legacy Awards STILLGOING App with $5,000 in Prize Funding at National Pitch Competition

Out of the 75 female founders of color in the PROSPECTUS Spring ‘17 Cohort, Walker’s Legacy awarded one woman-of-color-owned business, STILGOING, $5,000 to grow and expand business operations

Walker’s Legacy awarded Founder and CEO of STILL GOING, Starr Barbour with $5,000 in prize funding to assist in the growth and expansion of her web-based service that allows users to connect on demand with a live guided meditation coach anytime, anywhere. Bytenack, an e-learning platform that allows children to learn computer science founded Anasofia Monteblanco, additionally received $1,000 in funding by judge and benefactor Johnte Archer, Founder and CEO of She Is a CEO Foundation.

Barbour and her fellow four finalists joined Walker’s Legacy during its first annual Entrepreneurship Summit and $5K Pitch Competition in Houston, TX with partners, HPE, Google, Wells Fargo, and the Minority Business Development Agency. The summit connected over 120 multicultural women business leaders to the best resources available to fund and grow women-of-color-owned businesses. This was done through two expert-led panel discussions, a motivational power talk, and one-on-one business coaching sessions led by the MBDA Houston Business Center.

The $5,000 Pitch Competition was the culmination of the 10-week PROSPECTUS Online Business Accelerator which aimed to equip its cohort of 75 female founders with the tools and skills necessary to tackle some of the most prevalent issues, such as access to funding and business education, for women of color entrepreneurs.

“We are elated to provide STILL GOING and the finalists with the opportunity to not only present their innovative businesses but connect them with those who are able to advance them to the next level”Natalie Madeira Cofield, Founder and CEO, Walker's Legacy

“We are extremely proud of our other participants, Moisture Love, The Black-Owned Network, Bytenack, and Waste for Good for their unwavering dedication to PROSPECTUS, to solving the problems their businesses address, and to setting the bar for the PROSPECTUS businesses to come”

Pitch competition judges included Cofield, Archer, Crystal D. Hadnott, Director of Strategic Partners and Programs, EBONY Media Operations; Kim Roxie, Founder, LAMIK Beauty; Tasha Harvey, Community Development Relationship Manager, Woodforest National Bank; and Brandon Andrews of Value Partnerships and ABC’s Shark Tank.
