TV One, a 13-year old entertainment and lifestyle network that targets African-Americans announced that Brad Siegel will exit as President. The network has appointed Michelle Rice to succeed his position.  In her new role, Rice will have full management oversight of the network.

Rice began working at TV One in January 2004  as the Vice President of Distribution Strategy and Operations.   After only one year, she was promoted to Senior Vice President and later on to her recent position as Executive Vice President of Content Distribution and Marketing.   Within this role, Rice was responsible for roughly 50% of the network’s revenue.   She is credited with successfully negotiating all of the network’s affiliate deals and increasing its content distribution across all platforms.

Before joining TV One, Rice held various superior positions at cable networks like BET, iNDemand, and NBC Cable Network.   Rice started her career off at BET in which serves as a manager for the Canada region within the network’s affiliate sales department.   Rice later moved on to become the Northeast regional vice president for affiliate relations and national accounts for iNDemand in New York.   She was responsible for affiliate sales and local marketing efforts in the Northeastern United States, including negotiating and implementing the company’s affiliation agreements for carriage of pay-per-view and HD channels.   Rice later spent five years at NBC where she was in charge of distribution for CNBC, MSNBC, and Shop NBC.

TV One’s parent company Urban One CEO Alfred Liggins talks highly of Michelle Rice in a statement released after the departure of Brad Siegel stating the following:

“She has the respect of our industry and I believe in her ability to provide leadership for our network during this time of intense competition, increased platform availability and growing content targeting the Black viewer.”
