Power 150 honorees — our celebration of multicultural women who thrive in several industries such as social entrepreneurship, business, technology, media, real estate, and more!

A magna cum laude graduate from Colgate University, Nicol also holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from Northwestern University. In addition, she has a certificate in Nonprofit Management from the University of Illinois-Chicago. As an expert on various topics such as race, wealth, criminal justice, economic development, and much more, Nicol dedicates her life to researching public policy and navigating her part in changing the world.
Dr. Turner Lee has also served as the vice president and chief research and policy officer of the Multicultural Media, Telecom, and Internet Council (MMTC) — a national nonprofit organization that advocates for equal opportunity and civil rights within the mass media, telecommunications, and broadband industries.
Dedication to the Community
Nicol has contributed several White Papers including “A Lifeline to High-Speed Internet Access: An Economic Analysis of Administrative Costs and the Impact on Consumers” (March 2016), “Guarding Against Data Discrimination in the Internet of Everything” (September 2015), and “Refocusing Broadband Policy: The New Opportunity Agenda for People of Color” (November 2013). As she continues to fight for what is right for minorities, Nicol plays a key role in the necessary changes in our society when it comes to all aspects of equality.
Truly fulfilling the legacy of our inspiration, Madam C.J. Walker, Dr. Nicol Turner Lee’s success story consists of striving to resolve issues related to African Americans and other minorities. In the ongoing mission to achieve the well-deserved representation of people of color, Nicol is doing all the right things. She has been cited in widely known publications such as The New York Times, Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, and more.
A Woman Deserving of Honor
Throughout her ongoing journey, Nicol has received several notable awards such as the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (2015) and one of the Most Inspiring Women in Media from the Alliance of Women in Media (2014). As mentioned earlier, Dr. Turner Lee also received an award from Walker’s Legacy as one of our Washington, D.C. #WLPower15.
