Chicago, IL—Walker’s Legacy, a digital platform for the professional and entrepreneurial multicultural woman, has announced Monica Abernathy as its new city director for Chicago, IL.
Chicago native Monica Abernathy, nail care professional and owner of A Polished Work nail spa lounge, has a passion for all things creative. Monica thrives on orchestrating transformations and founded A Polished Work in 2013 to provide high quality nail care & service in an inner city community with this goal in mind. Knowing that success and happiness allows us to live more fulfilled lives, Monica is committed to making an impact through several community engagement efforts.
“I look forward to sharing ideas, experiences, and addressing areas of opportunities for professional women of color in Chicago,” said Monica Abernathy, Chicago City Director Walker’s Legacy.
Monica provides employment to several Chicago youth each summer to expose them to entrepreneurship; is a member of the Illinois Client Advisory Committee of Accion, a nonprofit that helps communities grow by investing in people; and is also a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. In her personal time, Monica enjoys spending time with her husband Fred, who is co-owner of A Polished Work and also a licensed nail technician and their two daughters.

Monica Abernathy is one of ten (10) Walker’s Legacy City Directors selected from a national call which garnered a pool of more than 100 talented applicants. Selected leaders will aid in furthering the Walker’s Legacy mission in their local business communities through impactful in-person programming and local engagement.
In recognition of March, Women’s History Month, national Walker’s Legacy City Directors will host Meet Your Match, a mentor matchmaking event. This national programming promotes direct networking, mentorship, and engagement with successful business leaders hosted in partnership with SCORE, the nation’s largest network of expert business mentors, with more than 10,000 volunteers in 300 chapters.
