Walker’s Legacy Profiles recognize unique women of color in business who embody the legacy of Madam C.J. Walker, the first female self-made millionaire. In this installment, meet Stephanie Bryant, Co-Founder of Unveil Your Crown, Inc.
More and more women are venturing into business ownership because they believe it to be a personal calling, a vocation. In this feature, Stephanie Bryant talks about how her faith has played an integral role in establishing her nonprofit organization, Unveil Your Crown, Inc. On her organization’s website, she states, “I am just a testament of God’s grace, favor, and faithfulness. I am only able to be who I am today because of who He is to me and through me. So I pray, that through Unveil Your Crown, young women are able to tap into their life’s purpose and have the courage to walk boldly and unapologetically in that purpose.”
1. DESCRIBE YOUR JOURNEY OF STARTING YOUR BUSINESS.
Starting Unveil Your Crown (UYC) has been a huge faith walk for me. There were countless times where I allowed my fear to paralyze me and I often questioned whether people would be receptive or supportive of this venture. However, once I decided that I would walk in my purpose—by any means necessary—and that I would do it even if I was afraid, I was then able to seriously delve into starting UYC. I never stopped praying over my business—once I knew in my heart that this was God’s will for my life, I knew that I had to be diligent and persistent in prayer and cover it. I also did a lot of research on businesses within the same industry as mine as well as those that were not. Whenever I entered an establishment, I was very observant of how they operated. How did they treat their staff? How did they treat their customers? How did their staff interact with one another? What were their values? Were they immediately apparent? Soon after, I began to draft my business plan and then started taking the steps to legally establish my organization.

Overall, I use every opportunity possible to observe how businesses operate from how they treat their customers and staff to how they’ve structured their business. For me that’s a major key!
