Walker’s Legacy proudly acknowledges the month of March as Women’s History Month. Women’s History Month which is observed in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia in March, and in October in Canada, began with a single day. It was officially commemorated by the United Nations in 1975 and was officially recognized by the UN two years later. President Jimmy Carter designated the first official National Women’s History Week, beginning on March 8 of 1980. The National Women’s History Alliance began declaring the whole month of March as Women’s History Month from 1980 to 1986. Until congress declared the month of March in 1987 as the first official Women’s History Month!
Walker’s Legacy will be honoring Women’s History Month all month with our “We Are Women’s History” Campaign. The campaign will include inspiring videos of members of the Walker’s Legacy community, Women’s History daily Twitter fast facts, and weekly articles on multicultural women from the past and present.
Stay tuned throughout the month for our celebration of Women’s History Month.
