White House Initiative on HBCUs and Walker’s Legacy Foundation to Host Entrepreneurship Webinar

The women-in-business non-profit and the White House Initiative on Historically Black College’s and Universities will host a discussion on the importance of entrepreneurship education for college-age women

The Walker’s Legacy Foundation in partnership with the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) announced their joint webinar on fostering a culture of entrepreneurship for college-age women to take place on January 12, 2016, at 1:30pm.

The webinar will discuss the importance of fostering entrepreneurship for college-age women and the vital role that HBCUs can play in cultivating and encouraging entrepreneurial exposure.

“HBCUs are vibrant centers of intellectual inquiry and engines of innovation. Students who attend and graduate from HBCUs build on their rich legacies and are proven leaders in entrepreneurship, stated Elyse Jones, Operations & Program Analyst at U.S. Department of Education, White House Initiative on HBCUs.  “We enjoy showcasing the talent housed in our institutions and are pleased to partner with the Walker’s Legacy Foundation in efforts to educate our students while providing access and opportunity so that they may continue to contribute to the increase in minority-owned businesses in our nation.

The webinar will feature a discussion on the research study, Black Women Entrepreneurs: Past and Present Conditions of Black Women’s Business Ownership, recently released by the Foundation’s sister organization, Walker’s Legacy, in conjunction with the National Women’s Business Council and the Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy.

]“Colleges and universities have the potential to play a critical role in exposing students to the interdisciplinary nature of entrepreneurship”, stated Natalie Cofield, Founder and CEO Walker’s Legacy Foundation.  “Understanding what resources and activities students can engage in to increase their awareness of and exposure to the culture of entrepreneurship will help to further increase business building and improve success for university-age women.”

An overview of The Walker’s Legacy Foundation’s newly formed University Women Programming will also be provided. This unique programming and the establishment of Walker’s Legacy Collegiate Chapters on campuses nationwide will provide education, leadership, and professional experience to the students who partake in the opportunity.
